Patrick Sebile has spent most of his 50 years fishing around the globe and designing revolutionary lures that catch more and bigger fish. Over his 32 years in the fishing tackle industry, Patrick became disillusioned by seeing fishing tackle companies become corporate, run by people who did not share his love and passion for fishing. Patrick created ‘A Band Of Anglers’ to be different than those other companies.

In 1946 two avid fishermen and sportsmen, Kurt Rade and Fred Meinzinger, wanting more originality and success with their terminal tackle, began designing and tying wire snelled hooks and crawler harnesses in Fred’s basement. As they became more successful in catching fish, so did their friends and neighbors, and the demand for their fishing tackle was on. This demand got the attention of local sporting goods stores and wagon jobbers, and the Meinzinger and Rade Company was formed.
In the early days, Bill Lewis sold lures from the back of his old Ford (“rattletrap”) station wagon. This routine gave no indication of the success the business would later enjoy. On more than one sales trip, Bill had no choice but to sell his products below costs for gas money to get home. But, Bill’s perseverance kept the business alive until one day in the late 60’s a friend with an assortment of Bill’s new prototypes revealed the powerful potential of Bill’s creation.Those that witnessed the debut of the future all time best seller had no doubt that this lipless crankbait was something very special. During his drive home that day, one other thing happened which remains one of Bill’s most creative moments. As he was manually operating the broken down windshield wiper of his old car, with one hand on the wheel and one out the window, he thought to himself “Rattletrap.” “That’s what I’ll call it!” The rest as they say is fishing history.

W.C. Coleman could see the light for the darkness. The young salesman was taking a stroll after a hard day’s work selling typewriters, and spotted a new type of lamplight in a drugstore window in Brockton, Alabama. This new light burned with a strong, steady white flame and was fueled by gasoline. The standard lamp of the era burned kerosene and produced a smoky, flickering, yellowish light. W.C. was stricken with very poor eyesight, and was very interested in this new, steady white light that enabled him to read even the smallest print in books and on medicine bottles. Coleman saw potential in the new light, and through his vision a new company was born that would put America’s farms and ranches in a new light, and would eventually make his name synonymous with outdoor fun.
